Communications
The Rank and File team recognise that timely and regular communication with the membership is essential to build and maintain a strong union. It is a reasonable expectation of all members to be kept informed of work done to advance their interests and also to have a means by which to raise their concerns.
Further, the Rank and File believes that the standing of the PSA and its membership after dwindling in the public eye in recent years is now being rebuilt. We will continue to raise the public awareness of the importance the work its members do.
Finally, social media platforms a great opportunity to publicise the work of the Union in ways not previously possible. We will continue to harness social median and other means to build the full potential of the union.
Achievements:
-
Communication with PSA members through an updated Red Tape has improved enormously under the leadership of the R&F team
-
Social Media connections with members is making much stronger connections with members and other progressive sections of the community to show the work the PSA does for its members and that PSA members do for the community of NSW
-
Update bulletins to members are now a constant occurrence which ensures a closer relationship between members and the rest of the union
-
Bulletins are developed between delegates and PSA staff to ensure the messages relate to the issues members care about
-
The PSA ran the “What Shape would NSW be in Without Our Public Services” state election 2019 campaign to highlight the wonderful work done by PSA members by providing services to the people of NSW
-
Established the “Champions of the State” campaign to promote and highlight the ongoing, often unseen, work done by our members to support the community in NSW
-
The PSA and CPSU NSW websites are being rebuilt to be more easily accessible, to be more useful and relevant to our members and to ensure non-members can see the benefits of joining the PSA
The Rank and File team commit to:
-
The prompt promotion of press releases in order to garner media interest. Delay in approval and release of communication to the media can cost the union and its members dearly in terms of publicity
-
Continuing the practice of the release of industrial bulletin via email. This must serve to briefly summarise recent developments relevant to members
-
The quarterly publication of Red Tape, which will also address ongoing issues and campaigns in greater depth. Red Tape will be made available to all members electronically and in hard copy if requested
-
The maintenance of an active and up-to-date social media page's on all platforms which will document rallies and membership action, promote upcoming events and provide a forum for members
-
Active social media which is updated daily to provide members with current news and information relating to the public sector and industrial relations.
-
An annual report to members, produced in January each year from 2021 onwards, detailing events that occurred in the previous year from each Department and/or major area of membership, published and posted in hard copy
